Strategic planning: Co-creating a shared vision for the future

The team at Tidal have a unique ability to turn the friction of diverse, potentially conflicting interests, and help identify a path forward.
— Anita Kuipers, Federal Co-Chair Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committee, Line 3

Tidal partnered with the Line 3 Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committee (IAMC) to facilitate a strategic planning retreat that marked a pivotal moment for the Committee’s future direction. The retreat began with a series of one-on-one interviews that helped identify common themes, key challenges, and areas where alignment was necessary. These insights shaped a two-day retreat attended by 22 members from the Indigenous Caucus, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), and other key stakeholders.

The retreat resulted in five key outcomes, including a shared vision statement to guide the IAMC&’s future work, a revised organizational structure to support operational needs, and an updated set of governance terms. Participants worked collaboratively to define clear goals for 2025 and 2030, ensuring the Committee’s direction is both practical and aspirational. By aligning the sustainability, oversight, and engagement goals, Tidal helped create a framework that fosters shared ownership and clear accountability.

The retreat highlighted the importance of collaboration between diverse stakeholders and established a clear roadmap for the next term, emphasizing the role of community-driven initiatives and continuous improvement. Tidal’s facilitation expertise was instrumental in creating an environment where open dialogue, collective problem- solving, and shared visioning led to actionable outcomes that will guide the IAMC into the future.

They worked with us to tell our story with integrity - and then turned that strategy into a powerful, engaging experience for all 109 participating First Nations.
— Richard Aisaican, Indigenous Co-Chair, Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committee, Line 3
